What we stand for

A few local things we keep showing up for. Like our Council, we reckon a greener, more connected Glen Eira is worth working towards — together.

More room to breathe

Glen Eira has less public open space per person than just about any council in Victoria — and around 30,000 more residents are expected by 2036. A park within a pram-push, and a bit of green at the end of the street, matters more here than most places.

What we’re doing: [CONFIRM: joined a couple of the community planting days; we’ll keep turning up to them.]

A leafier Glen Eira

The tree canopy has thinned over the years, and the Council’s working towards getting it back up to around 22% by 2040. More shade means cooler streets for kids walking to school and older neighbours out for a stroll.

What we’re doing: [CONFIRM: planted trees on a verge / backed the local urban-forest effort.]

A community where everyone belongs

A fair go for everyone here, no matter where they started — nobody going without, nobody left on their own. That’s the kind of street, and the kind of suburb, we all want to live on.

What we’re doing: [CONFIRM: lending a hand with local food relief / checking in on older neighbours.]

Backing our local clubs and high streets

Junior sport and the local shopping strips — [CONFIRM: Centre Road, Koornang Road, Glen Huntly Road] — are the glue of the place. We want local sport to be something any family can say yes to, and our small businesses to keep ticking along.

What we’re doing: [CONFIRM: shop local; helped out at the club; mentored a local business owner.]

Growth that respects our streets

We love that more families get to call Glen Eira home. We just want our parks, trees and the character of our streets to keep up — and for locals to have a fair say in how their own neighbourhood changes.

What we’re doing: [CONFIRM: had our say through Council consultations; encouraging neighbours to do the same.]

“These are the things we keep showing up for. We’re always learning from our neighbours about what matters most.”
